Farmplate and Mayon Volcano: An Enjoyable Afternoon trip

During our stay in Nabua, Camarines Sur back in 2022, we did an hour long side trip and went farther down south to Legazpi, Albay. Our main reason was to see the world-famous Mayon volcano, located in Legazpi, Albay, a city about 8 hours away by driving south of Manila.

Our first stopover was at Farmplate, located in Daraga, a town just less than 30 minutes away from Legazpi city. Farmplate is a private farm-slash-park with attractions. Found here in Farmplate is the Philippines’ smallest chapel. Then they also have a small barn, some food kiosks, some bird feeding activity, and a hill with a great view of the Mayon. It’s a charming place worth visiting specially for taking pictures.

I have visited the Mayon volcano twice in the past and this visit is my third time. Thankfully, each visit, I always get a glimpse of its perfect triangular shape. Do note that on rainy or cloudy days, it may be difficult to appreciate its shape as clouds can cover and obstruct the view. I suggest visiting this place on summer months, around March to May.

The Mayon has a poetic appeal to me. I am always at awe of its perfect cone shape. If it was a woman, I imagine her to be an attractive provinciana who possesses a welcoming grace and effortless beauty. Often silent and still but with a strong disposition and a temper not to be messed with. After all, despite her feminine beauty, she is still a volcano within.

After our visit at Farmplate, we headed on to SM Legazpi and dined at 1st Colonial Restaurant. Details of this, I will share on another post.

We only had afternoon to appreciate the Mayon volcano at Farmplate and I wish we had more time. It was brief but it was still fun. It was lovely to visit a unique farm and admire the Mayon volcano again!
