Ban Khun Mae MBK: Homestyle Thai Dining in Bangkok
After about 4 days of going around Thailand, we spent our last night and dinner in Bangkok at a restaurant called Ban Khun Mae specifically at their MBK branch. My uncle has eaten here several times in the past during his work trips to Bangkok so it was natural for us to go with what he recommended. It turned out that Ban Khun Mae is a restaurant in Bangkok that offers homestyle dining.
Eating in Ban Khun Mae is like dining in a mother’s old house in Thailand. The rooms are darkly lit with yellow lights. The walls are decorated with darkly painted wooden panels or dark green colour painted walls. A few other walls are painted with pictures of Thai culture. Wooden tables and dark metal chairs with brown floors and some rooms divided with varnished decorated wooden panels finishes off the ambience. Ban Khun Mae has a perfect set up for a homestyle dining in Bangkok.
For our dinner we had Tom Yum Soup with shrimp, Pad Thai, Marinated Chicken in Pandan Leaves, Mango with Sticky Rice, and for drinks we had Thai Iced Tea.
Their Tom Yum Soup had a perfect balance of sourness with the creaminess of coconut milk and a spice level that was not overpowering.

Meanwhile their Pad Thai had a mix of fresh and crispy vegetables with soft noodles. All of its flavour and textures were of perfect mix capturing that authentic Pad Thai cooking.

Their Marinated Chicken wrapped in Pandan leaves were of right tenderness and a balance of its saltiness and other flavour.

For our dessert, we had tender, ripe yellow mangoes with sticky rice, mixed with a delicious white sauce which hits a perfect balance of saltiness, sweetness, and that striking sesame flavour.

For our drinks we had Thai Iced Tea, its creaminess and sweetness perfectly blended with the tea’s natural bitter taste.

True to their name, dining in Ban Khun Mae makes you feel like you are heartwarmingly welcomed to eat in a mother’s house. Definitely Ban Khun Mae captures that Thai homestyle dining while enjoying the taste of an authentic Thai food.
